I like this because it is bright and full of energy and fun. This has a nice flow to it in its composition.

Thank you, Gudrun. Pen and wash do seem to have a light hearted side to them, don't they. I do find doing them a relief from the concentration of just painting. However, I rather tend to feel that I am just 'playing out' when I do them rather than buckling down to some proper work.

It is still definitely a Thea, Thea! With your lovely colours emphasised, it has so much going on in it and so much to look at, it is delightfully snugly!

I don't suppose that Cadgworth cove Cornwall looks quite as benign and sunny as this today, sadly. I do hope you sat up on that hill and drew this Thea !!!! Lots to look at and a happy scene, though I must say I might have included a lamp post in the foreground with a Scottie dog cocking his leg.

On yet another grey and dismal day your cheery painting is a real tonic Thea!

A delightful summer scene Thea and although a pen and wash, you've still managed to place the paint and merge the colours perfectly, including those splashes of green bottom right. Little things like that do it for me and add life and excitement to a painting. It's a good composition and I like the way that I travel round the scene before leaving by the road at the top right. It almost tells a story. I'm there in one of those little cars. lol

Love this colourful Pen and wash painting Thea.

Thank you Ros, Christine, Louise and Sylvia for your lovely comments. Louise, I rather like the look of the place and am very fond of Cornwall, so I may get to visit it one day (and be in one of those little cars, too!). Sylvia, I wish I had been sitting on the hill doing this one - looks idyllic to me and I would have definitely got my sketch book out if I had been in the area.

I agree with the others a nice cheerful bright painting, a reminder of the summer months to come, ( hopefully) Great cheerful colors, but not over the top and your line thickness is fine, So much going on here, and a great composition and I like the wonky naive style houses. Another great postcard scene.

I really shouldn't read what other people say 'cos I then know it's all been said! I think it's a great "little" piece of work. The lines are free and dynamic and the pigments flow into each other as always in your paintings. Waiting for more...!

I can see what you mean about the colours Thea, but they don't intrude to my taste. This scene is begging for bright and jolly treatment and you've served it. The wheely perspective is a perfect foil to the colours: it all takes place within a coherent dimension - nothing intrudes, no discord. I bet your grandchildren love these artworks!

A happy, cheerful painting Thea and so much to look at! The thicker pen is not dominating at all, I like the result and the colours are just lovely, as always.

I like line and wash in it's own right and this is a good one!

Really nice Thea ; makes me want to go down all the alleys, a sort of pen and wash Snakes and Ladders. Fun to do, and great fun to look at. Thanks for your comments on my work, much appreciated. I contacted my local supplier of Schut Noblesse, but he does not ship to the UK unfortunately. The Schut company told me that their distributor in the UK had gone bankrupt, and they had no replacement as yet - to be honest it sounded as if it was not high up on their list of priorities, and they themselves do not take orders from individuals. If you're ever in Holland or Belgium and you're still interested, get in touch and I'll give you the addresses of shops which have it. Cheers.

Thank you very much Kevin, Avril,Kim, Satu, Stephen and Sharon for such a wealth of positive comments - so much valued and appreciated. Sharon, thank you for the info about the Schut paper. I know that it is like gold dust in this country. Recently when I was on a course with Charles Reid, he had some but only because some kind person had acquired a few sheets from some source for him. It seems to be a difficult paper to work on but the results can be superb. I would dearly love to get hold of a sheet - perhaps I'll try eBay in case someone is selling some. Kim, I am still nowhere near satisfied with how I do a pen and wash painting as they remind me a bit of the pictures I painted at school - don't know if that is good or bad. Perhaps when I do them I find the inner child in myself?

I think it's gorgeous, Thea! The lines may be thicker, but you have managed to vary the pressure and create the requisite variations of lines and marks, and the colors are just beautiful, not psychedelic at all. The overall effect is charming!

Ah, a breath of fresh air Thea! Although we had a sunny day today instead of the dark and dampness. If you hadn't mentioned using a thicker pen in this one Thea I wouldn't have noticed, it is still light, fresh and vibrant. Perhaps as there is quite a lot of information in this painting you feel the thicker pen is clumsy ........but there is no evidence of that to the viewer....not myself anyway.

Thank you very much Seok, Fiona and Helen. You are very kind.

A "feel good" painting Thea that lifts the spirits, just what is needed right now.

I agree. This is a lovely feel good painting and you know I love these images. there's so much going on that I could never get bored looking at them.

Thank you very much Val, Karyl, Glennis and Dawn for your encouragement - really very nice to have.

I tried using a slightly thicker pen with this one (an 0.3mm - I usually use a 0.1mm) and I don't really like the effect as the lines seem to dominate too much for my liking. I think I then tried to compensate with colour and it may have ended up looking a bit too psychedelic. However, it was a fun drawing to do and is quite jolly in it's own way. Pen and wash in my sketchbook.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
