absolutely beautiful piece, really love this portrait of Noah, ttea..love the expression, the complexion is just right and the very elegant colours made this a great piece.

I'm sure that all your grandchildren will come to treasure all these wonderful records of their early years - fantastic, Thea!

Caught this on one of my rare visits :) You're getting so good at these wonderful loose portraits. Superb! PS My grandkids call me Panpa for the same reason. Makes the name special doesn't it?

Wonderful Thea. You really do excell at capturing these expressive moments in just a few brush strokes.

I agree with everyone another beautiful portrait

thea - the expression and skin tones are perfect, the only thing catching my eye is the mauve background I think I would soften the edges perhaps

Again you have captured the light beautifully, love the quizzical expression.

Thanks to all of you who have kindly taken the time to look and comment. I really appreciate hearing what you think about the painting and find it most interesting. Norah, re the mauve patch - I decided that I needed some colour on the light side of the face to 'pop' it out, so to speak. I had intended in going on and having much more background on that side, perhaps fading out into blue, etc. However, I put the patch of colour and really liked what it added to the face, so I stopped at that. Perhaps what I liked was the contrast between the relatively hard edge of the patch and the rounded and softness of the face - I don't know - but something grabbed me about it. I am still experimenting with backgrounds as I find them tricky so there might be lots of variation of a theme coming up soon!!

Thea, you capture lovely expressions, this is great.

Beautiful, delicate skillfull work . You've captured a great expression Thea.Up to your usual high standard !!

Hi Thea, another lovely portrait of your Grandson. You are clever at capturing his different expressions. It looks as though you've asked him to do something and he's giving it some thought!. As to the mauve patch. This is one of the things I like about this one. It brings out the edge of his face nicely. Perhaps you're moving towards darker backgrounds ! Anyway, it's a charming picture. Hope he appreciates it when he's older :} He'll probably say "Oh Rana!", and give you that look !!

Thank you Carole, Kate and Louise for such lovely comments. Hopefully when my grandchildren are older they will look at the portraits I have done of them and find them interesting and feel that they will always be a link with me (getting morbid now!!). Just as long as I don't get carried away and paint them starkers on a sheepskin rug and really embarrass them LOL!

My Dad painted as a hobby. How I wish he had done some portraits of me and my sister when we were children. Unfortunately he never painted us which I think is very sad. I intend to paint my first Grandchild, due on the 9th of this month. So much nicer than a photograph. Your Grandchildren will love these and will always have that link with you. Goodness, I'm getting emotional now, sorry !!

Out of my depth with these, but a very nice style and well done Thea

Thea, there is so much personality in your portraits! I feel like I know your grandchildren - you really depict them with love!

Thank you Louise, Neil and Seok Yam for your interesting and kind comments. I bet everyone is getting to know all my grandchildren as I keep posting paintings of them LOL!! You are all very nice though and don't mention that this is the umpteenth portrait of Noah. Louise, I get quite soppy when I think of my grandchildren, grown up, and having one of the portraits I did of them as a child. At least they won't forget me!

Great expression. Another super portrait to be handed down as treasured family heirlooms in years to come.

I wasn't on the web for a few days and woups!!! I almost missed this beautiful portrait. Very, very well done, Thea.

Thank you so much Mia and Val. I am off the web for the next week as well as off on hols - so I will have to catch up when I get back.

Not been logged on for a while due to a family bereavement so it cheered me up no end just now when I saw that beautiful painting of Tabitha but when I went to post a comment she had disappeared again. Please put her back she was gorgeous!

I am sorry to hear about your loss, Val - please accept my sympathy. Re the painting of Tabitha - I posted it and then saw the most glaring mistake on the screen, so I took it off and have just rectified it. Funny that you don't see it on your easel, but the minute it is on the computer screen it just screams at you!

Thanks for your condolences Thea, it was my brother who died suddenly he was only 58 so I am struggling a bit trying to come to terms with it all. I know what you mean about only seeing mistakes once the painting is on the screen, happens to me almost every time.LOL

Your style is instantly recognisable Thea. Your work has a lovely light and fresh look.

Sorry - another portrait of Noah. I can't remember what I asked him to do, but he wasn't keen, as hopefully his expression shows. P.S. All my grandchildren call me Rana - first one couldn't say Grandma and called me Rana and it has stuck.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
