Absolutely delightful Thea! You are always ready for new challenges and so an inspiration for us all!

Did I hear that word 'challenge'? Lovely shiny blues Thea and a truly wonderful bluey red onion! The limited colours work very well together

Thank you Satu and Louise - very kind of you. Well.....it's a lot of blue, isn't it!

...just sorting out my blue paints..

I think you've balanced out the blue perfectly with the redder tones. Mr onion looks a pit unhappy though with those sad eyes.

Oh Kevin - you did make me laugh! I couldn't see eyes, but now I can and I probably will fixate of them every time I see the painting from now on. You wicked man! Thank you for your comments as well, and thank you Louise and Dennis - very generous of you. How did I know you were going to be up for the challenge, Louise!

A hard challenge here but you have come up trumps here!

Thanks, Sarah - you're right - it was hard because you end up with a painting that is all done in cool colours which is very unbalanced. However, just adding a bit of alizarin to the blue helped quite a bit. The title is probably wrong and should be 'Feeling Blue with a bit of purple'!

After taking a second look I think Mr onion is afraid of Evil Aubergine behind him.

I hear jaws music now the frighteners have been put on Mr Onion. Beautiful colours you have achieved here Thea, and a great idea. Louise is right behind you!

Oh gosh - that is so funny and well spotted. The battle of the blue veg, eh?

Thank you, Carole, I am still chuckling after seeing Kevin's latest comment. Hilarious and I hadn't realised I had done that, but perhaps it adds a certain character to the painting??

A superb style you have Thea, so delicate in its application. It is a good challenge, a limited, no, very limited palette really has you thinking and this is first class.

Thank you, Alan, that's a very kind comment. You may not know, but the idea of working with a limited palette is a million miles from my comfort zone (I have 24 colours in my paintbox!) so this type of painting is a real challenge for me. The worst bit trying to overcome how uncomfortable I feel about not being able to add opposing colours and how unbalanced I feel the painting ends up. However, nothing is wasted and I learned some things while doing this one.

I do wish you wouldn't pose these challenges when I am away from home and my paints Thea! All of these vegetables and fruits seem to have developed characters now!

Christine, thank you - my money's on the Evil Aubergine to defeat poor sad My Onion head, unless of course the Cheery Cherries or the Grouchy Grapes get involved. Even the blueberries now seem to have beady eyes. And I thought I was just doing a still life!

Kevin has set the tone now. I can't stop seeing malevolent veg. Lovely colours. Like it. Blue challenge ....

I love all these funny comments!

Another lively challenge! It's good to work out of your comfort zone now and again and this has worked very well, scary onions and all! - or should that be 'mange tout'?? lol

Have I tuned into 'Hammer House of Horror?' Great challenge Thea!

Smashing work as always Thea. Might try this challenge but not into painting much at moment.

I seem to have got hooked on challenges, so trying to think up another one I decided to have a go at painting a still life using predominantly blue. I did use some alizarin to make purple/blues, but the basis of all colours was some sort of blue. It was actually very difficult and much harder than the all green one I did a while back. It was definitely a challenge!

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
