A beautiful and enigmatic bird, beautifully painted Seok. We occasionally get Hoopoe’s in Scotland…..blown off course I would suspect…..they are beautiful.

It's lovely and I particularly like how you've painted him in sharper focus to the branch, lovely.

You have such good skill with watercolour Seok. The Hoopoe in detail, the branch subdued. Just right.

Well done Seok.

Very nicely painted.

Chinese ink and watercolor on Inkston rice paper. The Hoopoe is the national bird of Israel and is known in Aramaic as the "mountain carver". According to ancient tradition, the Hoopoe brought King Solomon the Shamir worm to carve the stone with which he built the First Temple in Jerusalem. This particular Hoopoe has less exotic origins - I found him at the Bird Paradise in Singapore.
