Looking at this again, the colors look awfully strong. I am still grappling with the effect of acrylics and how they look darker when they dry. But thanks so very much, everyone, for your very encouraging comments.<br />

Fred, I used a combination of different acrylic grounds on mixed media paper, including gesso, garnet gel, glass bead gel, fibre paste and self levelling gel. In addition, I added an underpainting of random colors. I think I overdid the textures in my enthusiasm, and combed through the various gels a bit too zealously!
