This is quite a masterpiece Bob. The detail is lovely and not overdone and the village itself stands out beautifully. Colours are great too, I've seen some watercolour paintings which don't quite manage the vibrancy of Italy - this suggests early morning or late afternoon to me. Excellent.

Thank you so much for the comments. Marjorie, you are very observant, the photo taken by our friend was late afternoon/early evening. Looking at the photo I uploaded, it's a bit cooler than the actual painting, the colours are a bit warmer on the real thing.

A view of an Umbrian town from a photo taken by a friend. I found this to be a very complicated painting to do in watercolour, both from the drawing aspect, which took ages, and rendering the Olive trees and buildings. However my wife likes it, and she's usually my best critic when it comes to what she likes in a painting. As there were a lot of Olive trees, I used a W&N Olive green whole pan that I haven't bothered with so far...it came in a paintbox set of Artists quality colours.
