White Lilies

White Lilies

I think this is great. I like the composition; the abstract feel and of course the immediate presence of those powerful flowers. Excellent. Just out of interest. How do you find the Extra White compared with the White Saunders?

Very beautiful lilies Val and I love the foliage colour against the dark background!

Really beautiful, love that background too Val.

I love the detail you carefully add, maybe I may try with flowers instead of birds!

Nice one Val - puts me in mind of the work of Peter Welton

Super-duper Val!!

Exquisite flowers! I find white flowers fiendishly difficult whereas you make it look easy. Super, Val.

Thank you so much Gudrun, Louise, Carole, Paul, Michael and Debs. I was pleased with the lilies but unsure about my multi coloured foliage, I'm nervous of doing backgrounds, I never know how they will turn out LOL. Gudrun I like the very white paper, great for white flowers, though this was 140lbs and I prefer to paint on 200lb or even heavier paper.

Thanks Thea, I wasn't ignoring you honestly. I got distracted whilst typing my previous comment so by the time I clicked reply you'd left your lovely compliment. Thanks again X

Stunning Val, this certainly has the wow factor for me :)

Stunning painting Val, white flowers aren't easy and you have painted them beautifully.

Made me say out loud "Oh, that's beautiful" Love the shapes in the background. Lovely

I can't criticise this Val. It is stunning. Your best of many lovely paintings in my opinion .;)

A beautiful piece, Val, with lovely interaction of positive and negative spaces. I haven't been commenting for a while because I was pretty inundated, so apologies if I missed some of your earlier pieces. I'll get round to it eventually.

Many thanks for your very generous comments Lesley, Glennis, Beverley, Sarah and Seok, much appreciated. No apologies necessary Seok, the gallery can be very hard to keep up with these days with all the lovely postings.

I missed this delicate composition Val - because I'm lazy and (regarding all your other wonderful work) because I only check out the watercolour page. My loss. It's exquisitely observed and executed: 'delicate' composition, but BOLD execution - the way I like it. The mediating leaves between blossoms and background are a masterstroke. I could see this as wallpaper (a compliment). Hand-painted of course - William Morris...

Painted in watercolour on Saunders extra white from one of my own photos. I usually like to paint flowers from life but the garden is looking a little bare at the moment apart from a covering of snow of course. I'm still waiting for the first snowdrops to appear. Thanks for looking. C & C welcome.
