The latest in your fascinating gallery of beautifully painted birds Paul, all perfectly rendered the details of the feathers, colours, facial features, delicate legs and the post, are all done with such a delicate and steady hand, the pinks in this Chaffinch are so vibrant and ensure that we are drawn into enjoying all the effort that goes into these

Another fantastic painting Paul, you are not only good at portraying birds, but the rotting wood and rusty nail are very well painted. Looking forward to the Nuthatch!

A lovely study. The rendition of detail is excellent.

Another brilliant and meticulous painting, Paul: I have emailed you - very sorry that I'm so late replying.

Hi Ros, thank you for your encouraging words! I personally wasn't happy with the legs and wings, I feel that I could have added some more detail there but it's a little too late now. Once I sign a painting I try not to get the brush on it again. Christine - the rotten wood was a treat! It just happened to be the banister at the bird hide so very lucky. Seok - thank you for commenting. Robert - thanks for all your help, this evening I have emailed The Artist magazine my Marsh Tit tutorial, let's hope they like it. Jenny - thank you very much.

Thank you Gudrun! :-)

Chaffinch (male) watercolour/acrylic on SAA 225mm x 167mm NOT 300grm paper. I spent a couple of hours near a bird hide in North Devon taking photos and this little Chaffinch came along. It's amazing how close you can get, put down some mixed seed and wait......Sit still (move very slowly) and eventually you will get some nice photos. It's best to put food down or a feeder up a tree a day or two before you want to take some photos. I used a tripod and a cheap hand switch to save moving the camera which was trained on one place (don't move it they will come into view). BTW, I am not a photographer! I do like the colours within a Chaffinch, such a large variety, this one was sat on the end of an old wood handrail where the post on the end had rotted away showing the rusty nails (where I place some mixed seed). Great fun to do! I recently completed a WIP on this one, to see this go to my Facebook page and 'like' the page for any updates I do. The next work in progress will be a Nuthatch.
