Gorgeous body work on this robin Paul and lovely delicate claws and facial features

A lovely chirpy little chappy, super detail in his feathers. A Happy Christmas to you too.

I have absolutely no idea how you got all those fine white feathers overlapping each other in different directions near the wing. Absolutely brilliant. Your birds are always good but this is outstanding. It doesn't matter how often I try to paint robins, they end up like overblown chickens. Any other bird is fine , just not robins.

Stunning in it's detail and accuracy.

A superb painting Paul. The feathering is so skilfully rendered and the accompanying twig and leaf beautifully painted but not distracting from the robin. A very merry Christmas to you and I look forward to seeing more of our work next year.

Thank you Ros, Val, Theo, Julie and Diana --------- Diana I need to change the post on my bird paintings as I do us acrylic with the watercolour, so I will see if I can edit the painting on here. All I do is use a dark watercolour background of Windsor Blue with a touch of brown to dullen it, paint this as the body base colour. Then with a fine 000 brush I carefully use diluted acrylic white to paint in all the feather details. I can then drop in a wash of yellow ochre and other hints of browns to add colour over the acrylic. The paint will settle in between the unpainted areas of the feathers which give a nice effect. Hope this helps..... Plus I wish I could create paragraphs with this post instead of one block of text! :-)

What a beautifully painted little robin Paul, he looks like he is quite capable of opening his wings and flying off the page! Your bird paintings are fantastic.

beautiful delicate work and superb detail! I love it!

Quite brilliant, just love your detail and accuracy. Best wishes for Christmas and the new year. Looking forward to your New Years postings.

It's been said. Superb. The patience and skill that this takes is huge. Happy Christmas and all the best for 2013 and as has been said too, I look forward to more!

Absolutely stunning Paul, incredible detail beautifully rendered. Happy Christmas!

Robin - Watercolour & Acrylic - 225mm x 168mm on SAA 140lb paper. Completed 15th December 2012. Now I've painted quite a few Robins recently but it is that time of year and I quite liked the photo I took. A Happy Christmas to all! http://www.devonartist.co.uk/
