He's a bonny little fella even if he is a weasel! The texture of the wood and fur are lovely Paul.

What a lovely Weasel he is! Beautiful painting!

Nothing wrong with weasels, young Sarah Bottjer! Granted they're really not wanted in the hen coop, but they do a brilliant job at keeping all kinds of pests at bay - and they happen to be beautiful. If you see one in the hedgerow, and it sees you, it will dart away; but if you just stand there and wait, it will invariably appear again to take another look at you - they're intensely curious.

Weasily recognized, of course; stoats - well - stoatally different... (Ah, the old ones are the best, eh?)

Well done, Paul - another brilliantly executed critter for your collection.

Beautiful creatures and so is this Paul, it's a tremendous painting. Love his wet nose and the twinkle in his eye....no doubt got his eye on a mouse or vole.

LOL! Paul I stand corrected. I once saw a rabbit being chased by a weasel and then a hawk swooped down to join in the action too. The rabbit jumped down his burrow and I often wondered whether the hawk picked up the weasel as a consolation prize. Nature in action that's for sure.
Thank you everyone for you lovely comments, I really enjoyed painting this one with a good variety of colours. The main brush size was a Rosemary & Co 00 'Spotter' sable, with the addition of the same make of brush sizes 2, 5 & 8. I was surprised at the control I have with these brushes and the shorter hair but lovely to use, the finer brushes do wear down quickly with detail work but are not expensive to replace.
The paints are Winsor & Newton half pans with the odd tubed burnt sienna, sap green and brown/blue for the background. :-)

In a word.....Stunning!

this is lovely painting

With kind permission from my customer I can now show you this lovely Weasel I was asked to paint and completed a couple of days ago. This was painted on Bockingford 300gsm paper, using Winsor & Newton half pan watercolours and approx 25-30 hours work. A big thank you to my customer for a lovely commission!
