Really like the way you've done the mist in this, Pat. I'm far from an expert, but I would think scumbling is the best way to achieve this and interesting to hear about the colours you chose to scumble with. I'm always a bit afraid to scumble, but am encouraged by this and will have a go soon.

Thank you Jane. I've just got going seriously with oils this year, previously watercolour and I'm still finding my way. I find the medium much more forgiving, but that means I tend to repaint a bit too much and each painting takes much longer than waterccolour. I put a bit of red/yellow in the white scumble to reflect the sky - the storm and mist were just starting to lift and brightness from the hidden sun was appearing. The storm was all over in less than an hour. It was amazing to watch.

Beautiful painting Pat, lovely colours and composition, very well painted

Wonderful work this Pat - and i like the tulips

This is an oil on canvas 26 in. by 20 in. I started painting this on a very wet holiday in west scotland in May. I sat in the car to do a rough sketch and finished the painting at home this week. The scenery was beautiful, but most days were poor visibility as you can see here. This little boat was hanging on during a brief passing storm. To depict the mist I just "scumbled" white and a hint of red & raw sienna - not sure how others would do this. I used flake white instead of titanium as it seems a bit more transparent.
