Falling Snow

I really like the feel of this painting. It really does remind me of taking my children to sled in Winter. I also enjoy your other work too Pat.

Full of atmosphere Pat! Love that falling snow and the figures too.

I love the wintry feel. How did you achieve the falling snow effect?

Gave me a shiver lovely Pat

Thanks everyone, for your nice comments. To paint the falling snow, Mark, I waited till the rough painting of the scene was dry, then I used a dry brush with warm white and also titanium white (no medium) to drag lightly across the 3 figures and part of the trees (especially in the distance) - this gave a misty/blizzard type of effect. Then waited a couple of days for this to dry before using a small brush and a rigger to dot snowflakes around the painting. Finally a small palette knife with a point made a few more distinct snowflakes with less "smudge" - especially on the clothing - a bit boring doing this bit. As usual I go overboard with an idea and the people in the distance almost disappeared. The original idea for the painting came from a Christmas retail promotion, though I changed/added to the figures and changed the composition/colours somewhat.

Well portrayed Pat, minimalist palette which always works, it all looks right in my eyes.
