Discovering Darwin
I painted this watercolor from a photo I took after we returned from a holiday in the Galapagos Islands. The Galapagos Islands are situated in the Pacific Ocean off the continent of South America; there are 19 islands that are a living museum of evolution. Three ocean currents come together here so there it is melting pot of marine species. There are giant tortoises and many types of finches that inspired Charles Darwins theory of evolution by natural selection following his visit in 1835. The scene is near the Island of Santa Maria, off in the distance is the island of Ispanola..
