Really lovely portrait Denise

It’s lovely Denise.

Don’t be to hard on yourself Denise , it’s a really good paint but I understand that sometimes we don’t see it as others do particularly if we are disappointed for some reason.

I've enjoyed watching your progress on the forum Denise. Glazing is a valuable addition to your skill-set, so it was well worth doing. What you've produced is a good strong painting. We're our own worst critics, but you've no reason to be unhappy with this.

I think it looks delightful.

This is stunning Denise. Don’t know much about glazing but whatever you have done has been a great success. Her expression is a bit sad and she really needs a big hug. Love it.

Much appreciated, when you become frustrated with a painting, it's good to know people can look at it and give some positive comments, so thanks very much Rachel, Lynda, Paul, Lewis, David and Carole.

I've comented at some length on the Forum, so won't repeat all that here. You'll have learned a lot from this, because "always learning" are your middle names. The important thing to know is that you've succeeded in painting a unique portrait, and have done a great job with it which deserves congratulations - which I'm very happy to offer!

Well done you, it's great.

Very good work Denise, despite your misgivings!

You should be proud of this, a very strong portrait.

Excellent portrait, stands out on the page Denise. You’ve perhaps looked at it too much searching for that extra something, but forget it for a while and look again in a week or two, and you’ll think it’s terrific like the rest of us!

It’s a lovely portrait, Denise - I particularly like the texture of the hat.

I have to say, I am really very chuffed with your very kind comments, thanks Robert, Sylvia, Andrew, Marjorie, Tessa and Jenny.

I admire your tenacity Denise, I am not sure I would have the patience to glaze, though if the results are like this I might be tempted! I love the textures you've achieved and her eyes look just beautiful.

Excellent work, Denise.

Have followed progress on the Forum. The end result is extremely good and all those different textures painted extremely well.

Many thanks Sarah, Thalia, Carol and Heather.

Don’t be so hard on yourself Denise. It’s a lovely portrait. Look at those beautiful eyes and skin tones. A painting to be proud of.

There are lovely textures and tones in this Denise. Like others say leave it alone for a few weeks and you’ll reassess it more accurately when you come back to it. I like it.

Very good work here. Done well with the skin tones

Well done Denise.

I don't see why you would have any feelings of disappointment as you have painted a striking portrait. Regardless of process or method the end result is what matters and this is a great painting Denise.

Beautiful portrait Denise.

Very good Denise.

If you have never painted before then this is quite an achievement Denise.

Thanks very much Christine, Martin, Martin, George, Russell, Stephen, Peter, Spencer and John. John, I've been painting for just over three years. Splitting my time between watercolour, acrylic, oil, pastel, charcoal and graphite. I have been teaching myself. I taught myself to sketch and draw in this time also, so on the whole, I would think I would have had six months practice with oils, here and there over the three years.

You've worked really hard on this Denise and I think it's wonderful!

You have captured the light very well. The character of the portrait also shines through. Congratulations.

It's a lovely portrait Denise

Beautiful portrait

Impressive portrait Denise!

I agree with everyones comments Denise, this is an excellent portrait, one I'd be very proud of if it was my handywork.

Lovely portrait Denise.

Your drawing is excellent, the best underlying skill for a painter, not mastered by many nowadays. Colours are sensitive and well chosen, keep painting your work is a pleasure to see.

I started this, to practice the glazing process. This is the second painting I've done using this technique. I thought I started off alright but then it went a bit downhill. I like some areas. On the whole, I'm unhappy with it but it's been a good practice for me and I've certainly ironed out some issues ready for when I do my next one. Which I will be starting soon. Oil on canvas.
