A portrait full of character Denise. The colours are so well balanced. Love that purple blue colour. He looks as if he is very deep in thought.

I think it’s worked out extremely well Denise , the purple is lovely for the shadows.

Good portrait Denise, nice colours.

It’s good to try different things. A success…well done Denise.

Like this Denise, nicely done.

Can’t help but think he has a look of Van Gogh about him.

Yes, I like the use of this colour palette, has turned out very well

Very expressive a fabulous portrait Denise.

The structure and colour work well Denise

Much appreciated Carole, Paul, Carole, Lewis, Stephen, Martin, Tony, Russell, Heather, Shaun and John. Now you mention it Tony, I think he does have a look of Van Gogh.

Very effective Denise.

Good pastel work Denise.

I like the touches of lilac - have you succeeded? Well - I don't know... but I think you've moved beyond conceptions like that: I don't look at your pictures to judge if they've succeeded or not - why? Because you've moved into subtlety of colour and composition, well beyond simple questions - now: I know what I mean by this, but I bet no one else will; in short, I don't think you need worry about things like that, because everything you do is yours; conforming to "successful" questions just isn't relevant for you now. I would take this further, but - we can't witter on forever, can we?

Really good, Denise. It's a fine portrait!

Many thanks Peter, Val, Robert and Peter.

The difference between a photo and a painting/ pastel - as discussed on the forum.

I like the colour choices Denise.

Thought I would try a more expressive portrait today. Not sure what I think or if I've succeeded. Soft pastel. Done from an image of a sitter from the sketching club.
