There are only a handful of Avro Lancasters on display in the United Kingdom these days. Working examples are very rare, the Lancaster based at East Kirkby known as 'Just Jane' is one of them. Although it isn't airworthy it still brings in the crowds and is a rare opportunity to be up close to see and hear the Merlin engines running. I wanted my painting to be a detailed study of the aircraft, showing off the rivets and the droplets of water on the bomb aimers window. I thought that such a special aircraft deserved the time and effort taken to recreate it in this painting.
