Absolutely fantastic

Another &#39;golden oldie&#39;, Nicholas! ( My father worked on the Spitfire engines in the war.) <br /><br />Incidentally, driving back from Winchester yesterday, we saw the Vulcan Bomber on its last flight as we crossed the Severn Bridge. What a sight!!!

The Supermarine Spitfire, arguably one of the greatest fighters of the second world war. Powered by the mighty Merlin engine which also powered aircraft such as the Hawker Hurricane, The DeHaviland Mosquito and the Avro Lancaster to name a few, it's hard not to notice when one of these beautiful aircraft flies past. This particular plane belongs to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and can be seen at many airshows or flypasts in its famous three ship formation with the Lancaster and Hurricane. I wanted to make a painting that showed how well maintained this aircraft is with its highly polished finish.
