Lovely drawing Diana, lovely fur detail and great eye detail and colour as well

Gosh I only posted it a couple of minutes ago. Thank you. She looks quite solemn here but she's such a pretty girl.

Beautiful, beautiful drawing, Ilove drawing Alsatians,

She is a beautiful dog, I love her expression. Great CP drawing Diana

Knew this was one of yours as soon as I saw the thumbnail. Excellent CP work yet again of a very lovely dog. That nose is definitely wet!

Great .... what? Would you call this a drawing, or a painting? Not that it matters, because it's brilliant anyway. But if we call pastels painting - and we do - then there are those who might think we should apply the same term to CP. Once upon a time, of course, coloured pencil was hardly regarded as an artist's material at all - "crayons", someone I knew called them, derisively and dismissively.... Quite daft...but fortunately, the medium is at last getting the attention it deserves. One question - of a doggy nature: Karyl says she loves drawing Alsatians (and is very, very good at it); is she assuming this dog is an Alsatian .... because she isn't, is she?

Funny Robert, we just had that discussion on the UKCPS forum. Is it a painting or a drawing. No idea but I call mine paintings. If you use watercolour pencil wet you are painting with it so why not dry CP? You are correct this is not an Alsation (or German Shepherd as they are now called). I don't know if Karyl thought it was but these are very different dogs; half the size and with a tail curled tightly on top of their backs. They are Norwegian Elkhounds, the National dog of Norway, used to track Moose.(or Elg in Norwegian). There are three types. the Norwegian Elkhound grey (this one) The Swedish Elkhound ( bigger) and the Norwegian Elkhound black.

Thought so. I kept Alsatians once upon a time - love them, and wish I could again but a) they're VERY expensive to keep, b) I haven't the strength to restrain the little devils - you can only be dragged into a river by a great daft dog who wants to play with the ducks so many times before you realize that maybe the time has come to yield to younger and fitter people ..... Don't care what the Kennel club (spit, hawk and abusive gestures) calls them now, by the way: German Shepherds? Well pah, and indeed, pish (I trust I make myself pellucidly clear....): when I first had them, around 45 years ago, they were Alsatians, and Alsatians, bless their great big clumsy paws, they remain so far as I'm concerned. I've met an Elkhound or two, by the way - and splendid dogs they are. Oh, and yes - I think these are paintings - and that it's time the coloured pencil fraternity claimed its rightful place: there is superb work out there now, and it ought to be recognized (as I'm sure yours will be).

Reminds me - I met a Keeshond, a large Dutch dog, oh ..... decades ago. Still etched on my mind: are they related to Elkhounds? As I recall, they look as though they are.

No Robert Keeshonden are not related at all. They are Dutch Barge dogs; work on the canals. Although they look very similar they are smaller and lighter then ELkhounds. Yes there's one of our exhibitors with Elkhounds who lives on the IOW and shows there quite often. You've probably seen her around. I know what you mean about being dragged into the river LOL Our male Elkie used to drag me into the reservoir. he was water mad. You wouldn't recognise the GSDs that are being shown now; they look nothing like how Alsatians used to look. Such a shame. Our friend rescued one but sadly it had haemophilia and developed epilepsy

Talking about Coloured pencil being a real art form Robert, take a look at this chap. http://www.iroelpencilwarna.blogspot.co.uk/ Then pick your jaw up off the floor

Coloured pencil, A3 size. Very hard to photograph the white background and it's lost some of the colours.
