Baha'i Temple

Baha'i Temple
Comments

I think I've seen an acrylic painting of this structure - or was it just incorporated in one of his films? - by Roger Bansemer. It struck me then that it has a feeling of supreme peace and calm, and I'm not even slightly religious. A good many years ago, I worked with Gerald Kaufman MP to help Baha'i refugees from Iran - what I felt about them then was what I feel about this now, that they were simply good people, too good for the ideologically riven world in which they lived, and offered no conceivable threat to anyone. Yet the Ayatollah Khomeini and his ilk wanted to destroy them - the existence of this building is a rebuttal to intolerance and bigotry.

Yes I drew it from a view in one of Roger Bansemer's demos. His wife was going round it and explaining all about it. He wasn't painting it but it was just too beautiful and peaceful to miss. It's also close to where a friend of mine lives. I know almost nothing about the Baha'i faith except an old school chum is now a member.

Extraordinary building and not one I have seen before. The top part looks as if it is leaning back a bit but I am presuming that is the nature of the building. Great detailed work - also think the bushes and shrubs are very nicely done and are dark enough to really show off the building. I think you are really enjoying doing these drawings.

LIke the way the white temple stands out from your lovely tones.

Tonal study of a beautiful Baha'i Temple in Illinois. The temple is white cement; the first to be built like that in the world. 10" x 8"
