Coastal art - rustic fish

I think it's great Michael. Do you colour the driftwood, apart from the eye of course, or is it in its natural state? Even living on the coast doesn't gaurantee a ready supply of driftwood, it is quite hard to find a piece that is the right size/shape to, as you say, visualise an opportunity.

Thanks Christine. The eye is actually an old rusty washer. As for colour I do rub a bit of acrylic over the wood with an old rag but am careful not to overdo it . However this one is natural colour only. When complete I give it a coat of clear matt varnish.

Very creative Michael and the colour is so good, especially like the tail!

I like this Michael, very interesting work.

These are turning out so well , specially like this little chap.

I seem to have missed your other wood works of art! I rather like this one with his flowing tail.

Thanks to you all for your kind words - I do enjoy making these and, coupled with my acrylic fish paintings they were really popular at my recent open studio - must look for more wood.

This is great Michael, brilliant idea.

Nice one Michael.

I like this little chap Michael! You Christine are making similar discoveries on the beach and they turn out very well!!

Very creative work Michael - I guess this must be 'upcycled' art - it is lovely to see your imagination at work producing work as nice as this,

Another gem, Michael. I love the tail of this one - it conveys movement and fluidity.

Another small sculpture - this one from a piece of driftwood on a piece of slate - the fish measures about 8ins. There is actually quite a bit of work which goes into shaping these little pieces - the secret is in finding pieces of weathered wood in which you can visualise an opportunity. Need to make quite a few more as 'stocks' are running low but there are not so many bits of suitable wood around as I'm finding out. A new venture which is proving popular - let me know what you think.
