Love it, love it, love it!!! Your minimal watercolours are great Michael. I wish I could paint like this.

You're in good company - Alan Owen also uses black ink, applied with sticks, I think - I suspect cocktail sticks but could be wrong. This works very well, and I totally agree with Fiona.

Thanks Fiona and Robert for your kind words - they are most appreciated. Generally I find it is the more structured street and village scenes that sell ( I'll post one next time round) and, of course, commissions which have to be close to the subject , but I do love painting in this looser rather minimalist way. You mention Alan Owen and I very much admire his work - I have only recently seen it on this site.. It's not cocktail sticks that I use but a variety of twigs from the hedgerow which I chamfer down to a sort of a point - I love the often unpredictable outcome as the ink blots and blobs and finds its way across the paper .

Lovely loose and expressive watercolour. Pared to the bone, but full of texture and interest - a rare skill to be able to do this.

Thanks Thea for your feedback. Michael

Michael thank you for the comment on my work. I have just looked through your lovely portfolio and I like so many but this one is special. I love it, I think I must be drawn to the black ink.

As a newcomer to POL, this is my first chance to have a look at your accomplished work. May I say how much I admire Misty Meadow. It combines clarity of expression with such a sureness of touch' Best wishes - Joe

Another simple study done for fun. I have used some black ink applied with a stick for the dark highlights http://www.michaeledwardsartist.co.uk/
