It's interesting to see the start of your painting process, Michael, thank you for sharing. Looking forward to the finished watercolor. It looks very promising indeed.

Very nice sketch Michael, good idea to do preliminary sketches prior to a watercolour. I'm afraid I often fall into the 'more haste less speed' camp and regret it later!

Oh the organisation of the man. I truly wish I was as...organised. Look forward to finished painting and splash of red.

Lovely sketch but I know if I had drawn it there would be people saying the telephone box is too tall perspective wise. Am I right or am I right?

Thanks all for your kind comments. James - I have checked the photo which formed the basis of the sketch and the phone box is spot on - however I can see your point and it does look wrong even yhough it isn't if that makes sense - will reduce it when I do the painting - thanks for drawing my attention to it.

Does it look wrong? It's a low garage and the old phone boxes were imposing and large ... I look forward to the painting. Having said that, our local church is a bit if a landmark and a relative of mine drew it, to scale etc. The complaint there was that the spire ought to be bigger, as the custom is to exagerate its height!

Look forward to seeing the painting, Michael. It is a good way of preparation...the sketches are always there, which helps to beat the 'Whatever shall i paint?' syndrome. my sketchbooks are full of thumbnails, then I enlarge them with my scanner. It also helps composition doesn't it. This is a sketch which almost stands on its own...lovely.

This will make a lovely painting. Great drawing.

A sketch for my next painting. I don't spend a lot of time sketching like this - just a few scribbles to get the layout, perspective etc about right - I don't have the patience to do detailed drawings! More often than not I don't sketch paintings before plunging in but this is a rather complicated scene so I thought it better to sort out how to best tackle it first. Probably be painting it later in the week - currently sunday lunch and a glass of wine (or two) beckon. One of the things that I like about this scene is the phone box which adds a point of interest and a splash of red.
