Leisure on the Water

Max, you certainly have the movement in this painting. All you need is some shadow work - within the boat and on the sail, perhaps near the shoreline too.

Thank you Jeanette, I can see what you mean about the shadows, i'm afraid i put this painting away when i came home & forgot about it untill i was looking through my old paintings to put on the gallery. I will try & rectify this soon. Thanks again for your advice.

I know what Jeannette means about shadows, but I cannot help feeling that this painting stands as it is, done in your very individual style. I actually use very little shadows (if any) in my paintings and rely on depth of colour to depict shape, so I don't think it is always necessary to be accurate about where light falls if that is not your style. I think you are either a tonal painter or a colourist - I think you are a colourist as the colours in your work are so harmonious - and you love, like I do, that touch of bright red somewhere in the work. I find your work refreshing and charming.
