'Autumn at Linton Falls, Yorkshire Dales' Near the village of Linton the river Wharfe sweeps over a wide weir before being channelled into a cleft in the limestone bedrock. Most tourists see the area in the summer, when the river can be slow and benign and the falls quite subdued. The best time, however, is autumn or winter, when the rain-swollen river thunders relentlessly over and through the limestone rocks, roaring and pounding its way through as spectators watch from the seemingly fragile footbridge...
