Love this Martin, great subject and colours.

This is more like it: instead of going out there and braving the elements, you're very wisely letting someone do it for you.... and with excellent results, proving that it IS possible to work from photographs, provided you don't try to just replicate the photo.

This painting was inspired by a set of smashing photos taken by my friend Nicky Busby, a very talented photographer from Leeds. Nicky is a keen walker and has raised thousands of pounds for various good causes; this particular walk took her along the ridge above Wharfedale and the villages of Rylstone (of Calendar Girls fame) and Cracoe, with its glorious views across Barden Fell. Taking photos along the way, Using one of Nicky's photos as a starting point and adding to it the experience of walking on the snow covered moors above Bolton Abbey the other day, I created this painting of the ridge above Rylstone, with Cracoe Obelisk in the background. Pen, ink wash and oil pastel on Bockingford watercolour paper. 15" x 22"
