Stunning oil still life Margaret with great colours and textures, the dark background works particularly well

Thank you so much Ros. Backgrounds are a difficult thing to decide on when doing a still life so I appreciate your lovely comment.

This looks beautiful Margaret.

Thank you so much Carole. I have been trying to loosen up my style of late but it is very difficult when you are first taught how to paint exactly what you see(realism). This is one of those B4 paintings where I painted the still life exactly as it was set out. I do admire people who can look at a similar still life and put a totally different spin on what they see. I will be looking at your work as well and leave comments. It is so lovely to hear back from fellow artists. Thank you!

Lovely still life Margaret, nice composition and colours

Thank you Petra, most appreciated!

A lovely still life Margaret. It reminds me of the lovely old Dutch masterpieces. Like you, I am always drawn to painting things very realistically - I find the concentration it takes is a great way of forgetting little problems or worries and I am always relaxed after a painting session. However, sometimes I free up by only allowing myself to use a painting knife - but then again it has a very little blade!!

Thank you so much Julie. I agree, when I pick up the palette knife it is the smallest one that I can find but I am enjoying my classes where I can almost finish a painting in one day. I have been busy with one painting of hibiscus for 8 months now and I have tried to paint it with loose strokes and still hate it....the rubbish bin is beckoning. Will take a look at your work as well....
