Well I Love it Malcolm :)

Well thank you for that Maria, appreciated.

Wonderful Malcolm I would keep doing what you are doing what about a painting of some of the great drawing you were doing

Thanks Dennis, I have tried to start painting but it just does not happen

Great idea Malcolm, smashing drawing and wash work and look forward to it in the post!

Don't know if this will help at all, but I hit a similar problem a while ago - I got over it by going for walks and always taking a camera and sketchbook with me: I tended to use the former a lot more than the latter, I don't quite know why; easier, probably. I assembled a library of photographs of the landscape within around 2 miles of me, made sketches of those, and have been working from them ever since. I also tried working from memory - just sketching out what I could remember and painting from that: it's been surprisingly successful, at least as a way of getting working.

One key to this by the way was painting from these images as soon as possible - I have sketch-books full of old drawings, but they weren't doing the trick: it needed the immediacy of having just seen something and wanting to get it down on paper or canvas.

Thanks for that Derek, I always draw or paint cards for Christmas for Family and friends, usually on landscape and mountains cape themes.

Thank you Robert, I tend to do a lot of sketching and like yourself have lots of sketches from the past, I also tend to carry a compact camera, but despite all this just this last week, no matter were I am I cannot seem to really get going, this is the first time this has ever happened to me, hopefully it will go as quickly as it came, once again thanks for the tips.

Hi Malcolm you hit on something here. We all get painters block at times ,just paint anything and it will come right in the end , we all know you can paint so have no fear go for it and good luck mate .

Thanks for that big spoonful of positivity Dennis, this is what I have come to like about this site, the support everyone gives to people they do not know, so refreshing, thanks again and to everyone.

And very pretty it is too Malcolm. Don't worry about the block, it will go. Happens to me once a year and it really feels awful so you have my sympathy. A visit to an art gallery or museum normally helps.

Thanks for that Satu appreciated.

I love it too, i hit the painters wall a few months bak, photos from holiday unblocked it

Never too early to think about that 'C' word Malcolm, some people shop for it on Boxing day!! Not me, I'm always ready for Christmas, ON Boxing day!! This is a great start too, love that pale blue, I think that colour (cerulean?) always has that 'cold' factor.
What you need is a challenge!! What would be your worst nightmare as a subject to draw or paint? Mine would be abstract/nudes/portraits/animals. I'll have a go at one of those if you have a go at one of yours?

Hi Fiona, yes the blue is Cerulean, I use to use it a lot in my sky's when painting winter mountain scenery. As for my worst nightmare, I have never done nudes and am not likely to, abstracts would not have the faintest were to start, maybe animals, I can manage a thing like the Heron in one of my sketches but animals I normally stay away from, OK Fiona lets go for it, I will try Wolves in a landscape because I like Wolves and you do your thing and thanks for the incentive :)))
Oh help!!!! Me and my big mouth.....lol Right, you're on Malcolm, I may not get the chance today to do it but should have something for you by the end of the weekend! Abstract I think, like you, I don't get the concept but I'll have a go.
Good luck!!

Hi Malcolm, I thought when you left a comment recently on one of my postings that you were coming back to post on POL, I looked out for your Christmas card.
However, I wanted to wish you and your family all the very best of the season and I hope 2016 will be a creative one and we will once again see you again on the gallery.
Fiona

About the Artist
Malcolm Buckley

I have always loved the outdoors and have climbed and walked in various places in the world, after giving numerous slide shows and talks about my trips to raise money for charity, i realised the slides and photos did not do what i saw justice, so I decided to start trying to paint. I am self taught…
