Pansies and old lace by Lynne Matheson

Pansies and old lace

Just about to log off and up pops this vibrant little gem. I love the colours in it and all the little details such as the cloth, the pansies, the birdcage even the handle on the draw. I've just spotted the pattern in the pink wallpaper?? on the right as well. A superb painting, you should do more still lifes

Thank you Val. I found it stuck in a box with lots of 'to be finished eventually' bits and bobs. Are you the same, or am I the only one drowning in half finished sketches and paintings?

I too am just checking in before I go to bed. What's not finished about this? It really jumped out at me on the page. Wonderful vibrant colours, fantastic lost and found edges especially around the chair and table and that beautiful view out of the window with the frame just gently suggested. A really stunning painting. I don't usually go for still lifes but this tells a story. I want to know about the lady who sat on that chair by her delicate lace table cloth and listened to a bird singing in the cage to the birds outside. I would leave it just as it is.

I agree with the above comments. This is a delightful work and I would leave it just as it is -beautiful detail combined with subtly suggested forms, and I adore that wallpaper! Do more still lifes!

Thanks. The wallpaper didn't exist, but I felt that some dark rich colour was needed. The lady who sat on the chair was me, and there are a lot of emotional assosiations with that room and the view. We don't live there now, so maybe that's why it ended up in the sad pile. I think that art, like music is a story of your life even if it is unintentional.

This is delightfully painted Lynne. I applaud anyone who tries something new or different, whether thats as a painter or in life in general. Although I have enjoyed looking through your portfolio I think it would be a shame if you just stuck to landscapes. This painting demonstrates an enjoyment of vibrant colours and a delicate touch that could be turned to painting almost anything.

A lovely, delicately painted composition, super colours, it has a ghostly feel to it.

This is stunning, Lynne, not just the beautiful colours but the composition with so much left unsaid. I really love paintings like this that leave much to the imagination, and just want to come back and look at it again and again (this is the third time...)

I would be delighted if my still life paintings were as delicate and yet as vibrant as this - please do more!

Very, very elegant and amazing colour!

Looks finished to me, Lynne, and beautifully so.

No - do still lifes!!!!! This one is amazing. The colours are just beautiful and I think this is finished as it is perfect just as it is.

So soft and transparent. Don't give up on still life, You are very good at them :)

Congrat5ulations on having this selected as one of the paintings of the month. I loved it when you first posted it and am so pleased it was chosen. It deserves it.

I love the colours from your own imagination - a very gentle and calm painting and yet at the same time vibrant

I agree that this looks finished! It's a lovely painting that gets the eye moving round the surface space and the mind imagining the person who lives there. I think the technique and colours are great too. Well done.

I don't do many still lifes, and didn't finish this one, but I was quite pleased with the colours. I think I will stick to landscapes!
