And what a corker - so spontaneous

Louise this is ace. I am finding that my quick sketches have more life in them than the ones that are are maybe over considered. Te trick now is to do some in colour (gulp). I have decided to paint little guide books of all the colours, photograph them in black and white and study their tonal value. Free = fresh (and it''s giving me a bit of a buzz). Please do lots more of these as this one is superb.

Lovely lights and tones, Louise. Quite, quite excellent!

Nice work Louise - how long did it take?

The tones really stand out here Louise, my problem is getting the tones the same when I translate them to colour!

Love the monochrome sketch Louise.

Thank you all for such encouraging comments. Sometimes with painting I can feel as though I'm in a bit of a rut and this sort of thing is a good excercise, so thanks Joseph! Next step, colour.. Debs, it took just a few minutes, no pencil, straight in with the large brush.

Thanks Louise - perhaps you should start a '2 minute challenge' like the Self Portrait challenge we did a while back, that was fun!

LOL, I've already entered! The thing is, I feel a little iffy about posting such quick sketches every day along side paintings which have obviously take days or weeks to complete. . I just hope that users aren't thinking, oh no, not another one!

After seeing Joseph's excellent quick tonal sketch here, I just had to have a go myself. This is number three, two are in the bin, but not too much time wasted and hopefully something learned!
