Yes you have achieved it Louise, I like the dark, mysterious arches under the roads.

Fantastic Louise. I really love your work you have so much style and there is so much in this to hold the attention,

Wonderful original Cityscape Louise, packed with interest.

Very vivid and bold, the arches seem to draw you down through the picture to a city underneath a city, interesting!

Many thanks Carole, Julie, Fiona, Debs and Kirstie. It's interesting how other people see things in paintings that weren't really intentional. The curves here were just curved shapes in my mind but they do indeed look like arches. Now I have a title, 'City Arches'!! Debs sees a city underneath a city which gives me an idea for another painting. Now this is what I like about this site, I get help, ideas and sometimes lovely comments as well! Kirstie, this is why I'm back (lol) and I hope that you'll be posting your lovely tree paintings again soon.

The little willage has grown into a big city! I can see the arches and the underworld, the unseen dangers and the people in their flats minding their own business. And the moon, big and white, surveying everything underneath. I love your paintings Louise, there always is a story to read.

Interesting you had such a struggle with it - I had with one of mine a while ago: thought it'd never work, but like you, I got a bit drastic - and it did! You'd like to think this means "never give up" is the answer, but sometimes you can fight all you like and won't win. Glad you persisted with this one.

Thanks Satu and Robert. Robert, I rarely give up on a painting and they can actually cause me sleepless nights (lol) I reached that stage where I thought, what the hell, and painted over, washed out and generally persevered until fortunately in this case I was happy. Had it not worked? Well, there's always the next one! Kirstie, I totally understand how you feel but lots of us genuinely like to see your work here and when the withdrawal symptoms set in as they did for me, you'll be back. Again I'll say, hope that it's soon! I'm sure that you have a few new paintings so any time this week will be good (lol) Also, we need yours in the monthly top tens!!!

Good to see one of your urban landscapes again. I love the contrasting lines and all the little details that take you around the painting.Satu has put it so well ! Lovely.

This one works - darling --- I like it much-- dramatic

That's a great title, Louise, as it is very evocative and guides the viewer to what you are trying to say. It strikes me that we are seeing a city in the quietness of the night - no people - just the angular buildings and the undefined shapes that have been formed by the shadows. Lovely sultry colours and your signature moon. Another strong painting to add to your growing list of goodies.

This is stunning, Louise! I love the composition and the vitality and sense of movement, especially in the foreground. Been away, so I'll be catching up with the backlog over the next few days.

watercolour 53cm x 75 cm. This one was a bit of a struggle and at one point was rinsed off under the shower! Fortunately, this treatment hopefully added to the gritty, northern atmosphere of the city (loosely based on Manchester) that I was trying to achieve.
