Sky Again

I had a look at Ken's site Lionel, he certainly knows how to capture an atmosphere...as do you. Does the dark area need lightening? I love it asit is, it's full of something nasty! I really like the area towards the bottom of the lower dark cloud were it meets the lighter cloud above the trees, it looks as though the two are rolling and swirling together....you can almost see them moving. Very dramatic!

I like the sky as it is too Lionel, leave it alone! :o)

Thank you so much Fiona and Carole. On this occasion I think I had better do as I am told! I intend to try another so I'll make the next one lighter. Thanks again!

I think the sky is very good as it is, and I also really like the abstract/detail treatment of the foreground. For me, the problem with the trees is repetition - esp the 3 on the right, and I think more variety of both shape & highlighting would be better. Not sure about the fence. You can't lose it or your focal point disappears. Maybe a gateway (even if empty)? Perhaps with just a hint of a path leading to it? Just quick thoughts

Bill, thank you so much for your valuable comments. You are, of course, absolutely correct, but I had battled with it for so long I eventually gave up! I think I may now have another go at it and, depending on how it turns out, I may re-post it. Thanks again!

Great sky Lionel. I agree with Bill though. I was once told by a very good artist that you shouldn't block the viewers way in to a painting. There should always be a gap even if it means breaking the fence. I do like this series of skies though and the dramatic ones are wonderful. Happy New Year..

Another attempt at sky after looking at Ken Bushe's work as recommended by Robert. The sky was done using Paynes Grey and white, (by brush) and the lower section all sorts with a knife. I am going to try and lighten that threatening cloud somewhat but not sure yet if I will re-post. In any event this post will only last about a week because, apart from anything else, I don't like the silly little trees and the silly .little fence. I'll be back!!
