This works really well. I like the thoughtful look towards the sea. Great job 👏

Look forward to seeing the bigger picture. This is very good, indeed!

Really good Lew, even down to the shadow from his cap peak!

He looks might fun and I absolutely love the positioning within the frame and his gaze outwards

It’s a superb little piece Lew , stands well as it is , looking forward to the bigger picture.

A splendid drawing Lew, I like the empty space, I suppose you could have added a clipper on the horizon…

It makes you wonder what is on his mind. A lovely painting Lew.

You can't help but wonder, what's his story? Well done Lew.

Excellent picture, looking forward to the finished painting.

Wonderful character and I like the placing in the frame, with his eyes gazing out to sea Lewis.

Looks good Lewis.

Thanks very much to all for your comments.

Super painting Lewis.

I like the off-centre composition.

Makes you wonder what is going through his mind, lovely work Lewis.

He looks an interesting character - good work, Lewis!

Beautiful work Lewis.

Very characterful painting Lewis.

Great drawing, love the composition.

Also looking forward to seeing the bigger picture, this is so good.

Gorgeous work

You should have made it a porthole Lewis….I like it very much.

Sometimes it’s quite a challenge to paint small Lewis. I led a trading cards evening at our art club last year, painting 2.5x3.5 inch card is definitely tricky!

Thanks again for your comments, very much appreciated. Yes Frank, miniatures are tricky. I can just about manage the 6 x 4 size these days…years back I did some 3 x 4 inch. I admire miniaturist artists.

Great format Lewis……looks good in the frame.

Actually a study for a larger painting, the sailor will be part of it. Initially I just did the sailor, then thought I'd see how the little pic looked in a frame (after adding a quick background). Watercolour on sepia pen drawing.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
