Another wonderful sketch. I wish I could doodle like this.!

Love the topic. the idea and your skill in depicting it all Lewis. You really are a wonderful cartoonist. Hat off to you.

Some of the book titles are excellent.

A clever illustration Lew, your figure drawings are quite brilliant.

We should all read more, I personally wouldn't have chosen those books but I love the look on the guy reading Dracula. Certainly lots going on there.

I love it! Such a great bunch of characters. I agree about books but sadly I think the younger generations don't appreciate them the same and I believe in years to come there will be very few enjoying the escapism that books provide.

Lewis, I relay a football commentary each on the internet week to fans of Bolton who have no match broadcast.(Some as far as Canada, Oz and Saudi etc) My handle is Radio Tango. I'm seeing a mental picure of an old fogey (and his dog) with headphones and an aniquated radio in an armchair "broadcasting" to the faithful...and I'd love to see your version of that...when you have nothing to do for a while....if you'd consider it....(-:

Gosh there's that much going on you see something different each time you look, fab.

Lewis, you are BRILLIANT and so is your work! I love the perplexed look of the chap reading, ‘how to be a genius’.

A wonderful array of characters. Fabulous, Lewis.

I think my favourite is the Black Beauty guy. Brilliant. (-:

Thanks everybody, for your wonderfully encouraging remarks. You can never tell what people are going to like. I got the idea for this in the library, when a very sweet looking little old lady was checking out about six books with lurid covers shrieking...murder...horror...gruesome...gore!!! Not sure about your football commentator idea, Jim, but I've got to admit it sounds like my kind of thing. Mind you, what you're 'seeing', and what I'm 'seeing' might be two different things. I might give it a go sometime.

Fabulous Lewis! I love the expression on the face of the lady reading "How to get your way".

Great. How about a contemporary version where the book has been replaced by the mobile phone.

Amazing again Lewis - how long would this take you?

Thanks again to everybody for looking. Margorie...It's hard to pin down how long it took. Not long. At most about two afternoons, I'm just making it up, there's no composition, and no colour. Some of the faces are better than others, I class this as 'doodling' and don't fuss too much about anything. It's drawing at it's most relaxed.

This started as a doodle and finished up about people reading books. The book - one of mankind's greatest inventions, a small miracle we take for granted. I might have to go out and buy another one. A3 sketchbook, pen and ink.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
