Learning the English Language.

Morning Lewis you have got me tongue tied already😅

Excited artwork I had to read it twice .

Excellent artwork, its this English I can’t spell it so the spell check does as it likes.

Another great start to my day. I love the English language in all its weirdness.

Thanks for your comments. I love the language too, but it's odd. Take the word 'bow'...it's either something you shoot your arrows with, or something you do before the King...same spelling, two meanings and two pronunciations. ??

I love it! All the different pronunciations and spellings and connections to other languages. A fascinating history lesson.

Love it Lewis. I don’t know how people learn English with all its nuances.

Once again the wit is as sharp as the pencil. Can't wait for you to get started on homonyms, homophones and the like. Perhaps.....the fair haired man having paid a fair fare went to the the fair, where he was deserted by his date after giving her a date for dessert.

Great drawing and very true! I am learning Welsh (very slowly!) which has many complications but at least the pronunciation is standard!!

Another cracker Lew. I wouldn't like to explain to a foreign student why Comb, bomb and tomb have three different sounds. (-:

I thought you'd come up with examples...they are endless. 'Cough' and 'Trough' sound the same...but then there's 'Bough'...one-letter different, different sound. Still we manage to get by along.

I was once told “ghoti” spells “fish”to illustrate the difficulty of the English language- gh as in enough, o as in women, and ti as in station!!

Brilliant as usual Lewis. Not only is English weird but we have so many dialects too. Being a Yorkshireman we often miss words out which other English folk find hard to follow let alone foreigners

Terrific, great use of language.

Your observations on your fellow human beings is phenomenal....so there !

Try learning Hungarian/Magyar - English will seem like a gentle stroll in the park. Although - I imagine it is extremely difficult to learn as a foreign language. Another ingenious cartoon from you, Lew.

Very good, Lewis

Once again, a brilliant cartoon. My favourite word is BOW. Three letters, two pronuncians, and four meanings.

I've often thought the English Language must be one of the toughest to learn...I'm only just getting the hang of it mself. For example, think of all the words with 'ough' in them, often spoken very differently.
