The paper works. It's a joy to look into his/her eyes

Interesting that you’ve picked up on the him or her aspect, when I drew it I thought is it he or she? Considered adding beard or makeup and earrings to decide it, then thought I’ll leave it. All this is is a tryout of paper new to me.

Finding the joy in autumn, brilliant.

It’s a lovely drawing paper Lew, the HO in particular - I’ve got some of their glued block pads of different sizes with hard backs, great for taking outdoors.

Should read HP of course… takes a watercolour or ink wash nicely…

Excellent character Lew, the paper sounds good , be nice to see others you do .

I would think hp shows more fine detail Lew, like for botanical painting. This person looks full of joy!

This very much sums up what I think about Autumn: chilly, but a great opportunity to get the scarf, hat and overcoat out; beautiful colours, especially when the sun's out (but that's always true of almost any time of year), and unlike a lot of people, I tend to cheer up at this time of year when others can fall victim to seasonal depression - mine is more all-weather... Arches paper is excellent but quite demanding, I've found. The rough is very taxing - I imagine the hot-pressed would suit you well. And I think you'd also enjoy, if you've not tried them, the Hahnemühle papers: I was very taken by their "rough torchon", which isn't very rough at all - it has a lovely surface. To try every paper available is going to trouble the bank account a bit, of course....

Great autumn picture, excellent colours.

Has he just been to the pub?!

Looks great Lewis. The character looks nice and toasty all wrapped up ready for those chilly days.

What a jolly chap. Can’t help but feel cheered up looking at this. A very pretty time of the year but it’s just the thought of the winter ahead that’s daunting. Keep cheering us up with your lovely art, to enable us to bear it more easily Lewis.

Just in from a walk in the autumnal Welsh countryside around Llangollen, and although it was very enjoyable I don't think I appeared as ecstasic as this chap!

Delightful!! Very autumnal!

Thanks for your comments on this little test piece.

Works wonderfully for you!

Love the expression on his face.

Captures the season perfectly

What a joyous face Lewis

Test of paper. Arches Aquarelle Hot-Pressed 300 gsm. I've used their smooth Cold-Pressed, but not this one. Think I'll like it, need to do more. I'm having to re-think how I do things.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
