Well if this is your first venture, I can't wait for many more. This is lovely. He/she certainly is full of the joy of life and it made me smile! Love the delicate background too. Well done.

Julia, thank you very much for your comments. I've been hovering about painting with watercolours for about a year now, reading all I can, studying other people's brilliant work, and have now finally taken the plunge. Long way to go, but what a fascinating medium it is. I'm so pleased you like the background. I had a verbal comment from a friend that she didn't like it, which was fine by me, we all like and dislike different things, but it had me wondering if I should have done it differently. I'm glad I didn't change it. So thank you, and with your encouragement I'll have another "go". :~))

Your watercolour also made me smile. It is well painted for your first attempt and I think you chose a difficult subject. The rear legs of your zebra dont look right but the painting is full of movement! It caught my eye. Have another go perhaps using a different subject. I find if I dont draw pencil draw too much the work looks fresher. You have achieved this in the background . The background colours could be a little stronger. First attempt at watercolour - well done!

Thanks Louise for your generous comments and advice, much appreciated. The back legs may look odd because the foal is kicking them out sideways not backwards, which is something they do in high spirits, and often lose their footing as a result.

I like this watercolour very much - it's so full of life! You're already competent in this medium so just keep at it as they say! Thanks for your lovely comment on the SAA site.... I too learn from reading and demos on line and have painted "full time" for just over a year now; the POL gallery with all the helpfull feedback has been such an encouragement. Your gallery is very good too. Happy painting, Avie.

Thank you so much Avie for stopping by my gallery, having a look and taking the time to comment. I've got a few commissioned paintings to do in both acrylic and oils, but I'm really enjoying my new experience with watercolours and don't want to stop!!
