Love his sweater and the feeling of speed!

That's the difficult way to ski! I used to be a ski instructor, but I went for the high tech equipment - makes it a lot easier I can tell you. This is a wonderful painting which captures the gung ho attitude of the early skiers. Off he has gone in his woolly jumper when nowadays skiers are clad in Goretex - love the spirit of it.

Lots of action in this one, the colour gives the impression of this being in more recent times.

Thanks for this. I didin't know about your skiing past Thea. Wonderful! This small vignette is inspired by my Norwegian Dad's skiing days - Telemark turns on bamboo poles.

I should have waited for this gem last night! I have the embarrassment of mentioning that I have never skied apart from down a lawn hill and fell over as the sludgy snow gripped the skis. What a poor exemplar of a Scandinavian! I would, however, love to do some telemarking/cross-country skiing. That to me seems to have much more purpose.

Very fine painting Kim both of them.

Great sense of style and movement.

Wow, This picture has told me more about the people on this site than anything else. It's a wonderful painting and the sweater is amazing.

That looks like me in my youth in Finland! Wooden skis, woolly jumper and all! Great painting Kim!

Never been near a pair of skis but this is really a "historical document"! I too love the sweater and the old rucksack. Full of movement....

What a wonderfully interesting piece, Kim! Having only ski-ed in what Thea calls "high-tech equipment", this is such a revelation for me! And what a superb painting - it's so lifelike that one can feel the speed as he makes his way across the snow. Excellent!

Kim, I've never been near a pair of skies in my life but this lovely watercolour shows me what I've missed.

My skiing days ended about four years ago, Kim, when a previously partly ruptured ACL ligament finally snapped and I fell badly. Two operations later I was told to stay away from the white stuff. Very sad, but that's life. Skiing was my passion before that and now art has taken it's place - at least no need to buy expensive Goretex for that! Both my grandsons (14 & 12) are crack skiers - totally fearless and have been skiing since they were about 3. My daughter was also a ski instructor so she is pretty handy too. So you see, a skiing family which makes me appreciate your paintings from the past even more.

Lovely capturing of this chap looking very much like a cross country skier from way back when, super work
