Yvette’s Flowers - practice with oils

Comments

This is lovely Katy

Thank you Heather, bit nervous about posting these oil practices, I feel like a complete beginner!

This excellent Katy, I particularly like how you have painted the vase. It’s really good particularly as you are new to oils, braver than me.

Thank you Paul, I think the vase is my favourite bit. I’ve only got a small starter selection of colours so it’s taken a bit to get it right.

This is a really good practice piece Katy, you’re doing well! My only advice is to determine your light source and mix your colours accordingly - all the flowers appear to be in the same light, the vase has shadows which is good. Some of those LH one’s should be in a shadow.

Thank you Alan, I can see that now you’ve pointed it out. I shall see what I can do!

This is also a great, lovely painting, Katy.

Thank you Mia.

Another great painting Katy loving the colours and the softness of the flowers

This has a lovely softness to it Katy and I love the colourful array of the flowers

Katy this is lovely. Alan is right re the darker tones which will make your work sing if you squint and find them first! You say you only have a small selection of colours but that’s probably a benefit because it’ll make you mix your own. Nice one and a challenging array of different blooms.

Thank you Hilary and Carole, really appreciate your comments. Thank you Tessa, darker tone and shade is an issue for me, I’m always afraid it will look dirty or muddy. I agree about the limited palette making me work at mixing my own, but I bet this time next year I’ll have loads of ‘must have’ colours😆

Katy I think you are doing brilliant work with oils, lovely and bright 😀

Thank you Linda.
