Autumn Approaching Stonehaven

Lovely, John. The paint seems to have another quality on the aluminium.

I totally agree Marjorie! I have to work very differently to control it and the effects are very different 😳😳

Lovely confident style John, I’ve never painted on aluminium… how do you prepare it beforehand?

Thanks Alan. I paint straight onto it but you could gesso/prime it I guess? I don’t because I like to scrape bits back to bare aluminium… 🙏🏼

A lovely painting John. It works really well on aluminium.

Thank you Spencer, it’s a very different painting experience and result. I’m glad you like it.

Russell, thank you, I’m always happy when a painting has that effect 🙏🏼

I love it. Everything is just right - composition, colours... I like the texture of your painting as well. Well done John.

It's lovely, colours, brushwork, everything!

Jacky, Barbara and Heather I’m very grateful for your generous comments and I’m delighted you like my work 🙏🏼🤗🙏🏼

You’re very kind Dixie, thank you 🙏🏼

Very nice painting - I like the subdued palette

I’m glad you do Richard, the colours give the feeling of cooler days to come 🙏🏼

Excellent painting John, love the harmony of your colours, understated waves, loosely painted buildings and boats and the wonderful foreground textures...A well constructed painting. I like it.

What a beautiful finish on the aluminium, love the brush marks. Also love the colours so realistic.

Another beautiful painting, love it.

Valerie, Carole and Stephen, thank you for your comments. I’m very encouraged by such generosity 🙏🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙏🏼

This is terrific John. I do like your subtle colours and brush/knife marks. You’ve reminded me that I did briefly try aluminium a few years ago, unsuccessfully, having bought some small trial sizes. You’ve inspired me to dig them out and try again! Out of interest what size is this? It looks quite large.

Hi Tessa and thank you for your lovely comment. Aluminium is a different experience and I have to operate quite differently when using it. The plate I’ve used in this painting is 56 x 25 cm. Good luck and let me know how you get on 😊😊😊

Really excellent John. Great depth and the textures, especially on the wave crests.

Many thanks David, I’m delighted you like it 😊

Really good, John’s, like the effect.

This works so well in so many respects.

Leslie and Maureen, your comments are very much appreciated and I’m very glad you enjoyed the painting 🙏🏼😊
