Blair’s Gatehouse

Sorry for your loss John, this is a beautiful picture.

Stephen- thank you. It’s tough to drag myself back to normality but we must go on 🙏🏼

My sympathy John, so hard to deal with. Hopefully your painting will help. This is a lovely image in your usual confident and very skilful style. x

A beautiful painting, take care x

This is wonderful John and back with such a brilliant one. So sorry to hear about your father, must be very sad for you.

Your loss is one nearly all of us go through and it's hard. Getting back into painting is probably the best thing you can possibly do - it would have been my mother's 97th birthday last week: she did make 94, though; I celebrated the day by painting, which was a lot better than just sitting here feeling sad. That's a fine painting, which I would probably have spoiled by delving into foreground detail - it just wasn't necessary. You've made a grey lump of a building - though with interesting and varied features - into an impressive statement.

An uninteresting piece of architecture made interesting by your point of view and some great colours. Sorry to hear of your father’s death.

Tessa, Valerie and Heather. Thank you so much for commenting so positively- I always appreciate it :)

Robert, your comment is very much appreciated, to me the old granite buildings of Aberdeenshire have a charm that is there if you look deeper than the superficial levels. Complicated foregrounds tend to distract the eye from travelling through my paintings, so I paint loosely and find it enjoyable. Thanks once again :)

Thanks Andrew, the painting process cheered me up when I eventually got myself into the studio. Thank you for your kind words :)

Lovely work John!

I’m so sorry to hear about your father. Your painting has great perspective and super texture.

This is very characterful and harmonious. You've captured the light well.

I like the contrast between the solid building and the sunny garden - a very skilful painting. So sorry to hear of your loss, John.

So sorry, John, for your sad loss. Your painting is wonderful.

Great painting. Sorry to hear about your father, take care.

Guy, Spencer, Bill, Anne, Shirley and Emma!! Such lovely comments, they're very much appreciated- thank you all x

I am so sorry to hear of your loss John. Unfortunately it is something we all have to go through. At least you were able to be with him at the end which I think is a big thing and which is something I regret with my own father. With regard to your painting, I love it. It is really well painted with subtle colours and great tones. The warm, unfussy foreground also works really well. I think it is up there with your best. Take care.

David, many thanks for your kind and thoughtful words, I’m comforted by everyone’s kindness. I am also delighted that you enjoyed the painting 🙏🏼😊🙏🏼

It’s so hard to lose a loved one. Glad you have your painting to help get through this period. And this is a good one, John

I love this John. It somehow looks so familiar. My sympathy to you. Painting is so wonderful for taking the mind away into other places.

Beautiful- and I love the building - so stunning. And so very sorry for your loss.
