Children illustration so what Jenny? It's a good one. Carefully planned, eye lines through her head to the interrupted lane and the undulations of land which is smashing.

Yes these are very nice Jenny, great illustrations cleverly done.

Thank you so much Derek and Carole for your kind comments. (Although I do enjoy painting in this style I'm always a bit anxious that people will think it's rather childish and unsophisticated!)

Well Jenny, I must be rather childish and unsophisticated because I really like this!

Thank you, Christine! (I think I probably just need to be a little less sensitive about it all!)

Jenny...You could not be more wrong! There is nothing childish or unsophisticated about this...It's wonderful! You have a very sophisticated vision, and I love this !!! Gaugin is one of my favourite painters too, incidentally, and le Daunier. Stay sensitive, Jenny, but with work like this you can be positive too.

I like your gallery of work too!

Ruth, thank you so much for your encouraging comments. (I'm beginning to realise that the real benefit of POL is the opportunity to see our work (of which we're often our own worst critics!) through other people's eyes, with often unexpected feedback.) Thanks also for your comments on my gallery, much appreciated.

I think this is charming Jenny. I love the simplicity of the lines and your choice of colours.

Thanks, Julie!

This is fabulous, Jenny! I really like this style and I'm in awe of your prowess at coming up with these super compositions! The shapes are so cleverly distilled and I love the palette.

Jenny I couldn't even begin to plan anything like this never mind paint it. Your work is so original it will always be admired.

Thanks so much Seok and Fiona, for your very kind comments. (The feedback I've had on this one has been very helpful and I think in future I need to worry less about my style and just do what comes naturally!)

Pen and ink/watercolour. Gaugin is one of my favourite painters, and at an art club workshop a couple of years ago following a talk on Impressionism I painted a partial copy of one of Gaugin's works, although it was rather rushed. I've finally got round to doing it again, although this time it's turned out to be in the 'children's book illustration' style which I seem to have fallen into recently!

About the Artist
Jenny Harris

I paint mainly in watercolour, often including other media such as pen and ink, pastel or collage. My main interest is in colour and design and most of my work is quite stylised and often illustrative. I enjoy experimenting with acrylic inks, particularly using cling film to create texture, and…
