It has a lovely sense of place - would hang it on my wall any time

The thought of doing this as a demo is ENTIRELY frightening! I suppose you get used to being watched - I wouldn't mind it if working in oil or acrylic, but in watercolour, when so much can go wrong so quickly - well, I suppose one could always pass it off by saying 'I've done this all wrong for you, so you can profit by my mistakes': but I doubt that anyone would believe me.

Excellent painting, I do enjoy live demos it’s the pressure of it possibly going wrong thst give it a edge.

Just marvelous.

Thank you for your comments. Interesting that I so often get compared to Wesson; I think it would be illuminating to see a painting by him of the exact same scene alongside, in each case. I just honestly don't think they would be very similar. Anyway, I know it's often intended as a compliment and he is certainly one of my favourite painters... Michael, your comment again makes me want to reply directly: Yes, demonstrating in watercolour (depending on your style/technique/how long you take/whether you give a proper commentary/the challenge of the particular subject and loads other factors - mine are usually also plein air) very often does involve some terror! Always a challenge, and there is jeapordy always with this medium, even if other factors are kind. Demos often don't go as the artist would like Well, virtually never really, or at least that's my experience. But the whole idea is that they are USEFUL, and very often they are therefore painted in quite a different way to how I'd paint just for myself.

Sorry, I meant "... Robert,"

Excellent use of the medium!

A painting of top quality. Although Edward Wesson was a wonderful and well respected artist of water colour. A comparison of a water colour of Pin Mill as shown in his book Edward Wesson The Masters Choice page 124 can be looked up for one to make there own decision about, but for myself I feel that the above painting has a more professional status and finished to it ...

Impressive as a painting, demo or not !

Thanks again for each of your comments. (I don't have that book, John, otherwise I'd definitely look that up. Cheers)

Pin Mill is often visited by painters and I've been there a number of times, mostly when teaching. This was a demo from my spring course at painters' paradise, Dedham Hall. I will remember this painting for being a rare occasion that I painted the sky almost last, rather than first. That was because it really was a very bland blanket of low cloud to begin. It needed something to happen and thankfully after a while it became a bit more interesting, providing something from which I could enhance slightly.
