I know the feeling Jan, especially when it's someone you know very well. It's an excellent portrait, the small details ( eyelashes, hair, fine lines) are very good. Did you work from a grid? I tend to go straight in and adjust as I go along but that can be very frustrating. Plus, for me, it all seems harder when the subject is well known to you, unless you're going for an impression. Excellent in every way!

Wonderful monochrome portrait. Always difficult I think to paint family members as they are so much more than one fixed image. anyway, this is masterly, well done.

It’s finished! A lovely interpretation Jan with some excellent passages!

A great portrait of the young 'Gooner!'

Thank you for your kind comments Marjorie, Heather, Alan and Russell... no, I didn't work from a grid - I traced the features using tracing-paper. Not sure if this is "cheating" but otherwise I would struggle to get the likeness...

Fantastic use of light and beautifully sensitive Jan. love the eyelash detail and the expression.

Beautiful monochrome portrait painting for your son Joe, lovely dark and light blemishes and soft gentle expression from his eyes!

Thank you for your encouraging comments Carole and Angela...

Excellent work, Jan!

Great skill Jan.

Excellent work! It is not cheating, provided that it is by your own fair hand. Cheating would be printing a photo and calling it your painting.

This is superb! Well done for producing another excellent portrait. The light and dark areas are just right to show off the face. Even setting it up must have been difficult.

Stunning, absolutely lovely.

Thank you Val-Irene, Anne, Roger, Linda, Fiona and Denise for your nice c0mments - much appreciated!

Lovely portrait. Some super fine details. J

Thank you for your generous comments Christine, Andrew and Carole...

Wonderful portrait, Jan, great light and shadows.

This painting is wonderful. I like them all.

Oil portrait of my son Joe... I've fiddled with it so much that I just need to post it now and leave it alone! On 10 x 12 linen board.
