The Admiration of Lady Iliffe

This painting was inspired by a recent visit to Basildon Park. I've shown two ladies admiring the portrait of Lady Iliffe which stands in the house at the foot of the main staircase. Using a low key palette, and the addition of a shadowy background figure, I've tried to give this work a sense of atmosphere and intrigue. Gouache on W/C paper 25x36cm.
