Not far from this spot is the Maclaurin gallery which has, on permanent exhibition a series of 54 very large paintings of the Tam O’ Shanter poem, painted by Alexander Goudie, father of Lachlan.

Your painting certainly conveys the rather spooky spirit of the place.

Beautifully drawn and painted, Fiona.

Love the mark making as always Fiona especially the tree, I really like the subtle way you have got the folds in the ground and the angles of the headstones all adds to the age of the place, nice one.

Very nice Fiona - great colours - very atmospheric! :)

Nice use of the poem and sketch together Fiona. I love churches, particularly old ones.

Love it Fiona. Like the poem, too. Great subject.

Lovely Fiona. Colours and shadows are inspirational.

Oh love this Fiona! Also love the poem. Everything beautifully rendered.

Such a well drawn picture Fiona. It brings an image to the poem.

Instantly recognisable style and very well drawn Fiona. You've taken some care with your mark making and this shows. That tree is excellent, the trunk and those branches. One small but significant point though!, make the light source clearer. You seem to have multi-directional shadows, so make that source more obvious and use those darker shadows to your advantage. Pretty damn good though so well done. I'll send you one of my church sketches over shortly, so you will see what I mean more clearly. Shadows + light give impact.

Ooh this is so good Fiona! I love your choice of colours, it really comes alive. Excellent!

This is really atmospheric Fiona. I particularly like the old tree and the stonework of the church. Obviously a good day out.

Oh wow Fiona I'm a wee bit scared of The Auld Kirk, a brilliant depiction of it, can we have the witches and warlocks next please 😁😁😁

Beautiful colours,I like your style, and choice of subjects, Fiona.

A painting with great atmosphere. Well done.

Really so bleak and mysterious. Grand mark making too!

Ooo this is great Fiona. Great colours 👍🏻

Thank you ever so much everyone for your great comments and feedback...Alan! Always enjoy reading your comments.....see what I can do about the witches and warlocks Linda...lol It’s a fabulous graveyard, some of the headstones are works of art themselves. Thanks again x

This caught my eye right away, Fiona.

Thank you very much Dawn!

Like the ink with the watercolour and the great colours, Fiona

Spooky atmosphere Fiona, I can see your witches dancing around here.

Thanks very much Maureen, Val for your lovely comments.

12”x10” watercolour and ink on Jacksons rough. Spent the day in Alloway on Monday and if you are familiar with Burns’ poem, Tam o’ Shanter this is where his nightmare began.......”Kirk Alloway seem’d in a bleeze; Thro’ ilka bore the beams were glancing; And loud resounded mirth and dancing.......” this clamour drew him to look through the window to the left of the doorway.......”And, wow! Tam saw an unco sight! Warlocks and witches in a dance;”....
