Back to Basics....Apple Exercise

Back to Basics....Apple Exercise

Beautiful Fiona i can tell you enjoyed this back to basics with class

You did form the rounded shape Fiona, lovely shading , well done for standing in one place til it was finished :))

I wouldn't have the patience for this Fiona but agree that it's a good exercise in looking hard at the subject.

So this is the apple Dennis mentioned, what a great effort Fiona, really useful exercise that brings back memories, yes, I have a long memory.

Excellent work...

Wow.....and no outline drawing just shading. A good "focus exercise".

My Eagle was done with watercolour pencils Fiona, if you apple was done in watercolour pencils i would have loved to paint it in..Cheers. peter.

Very nice Fiona, a good exercise in drawing and discipline by the sound of it, well done

Good enough to eat Fiona. A super apple with a nice shape.

Not being serious Fiona, you know me..having just read your comment on Dennis' goose about realising the beauty in an apple when looking closely. It reminded me of 'Cold Feet' the other night. I don't know whether you watch the programme, but they were concentrating hard while looking at a sultana. A relaxation technique but one of the characters kept eating hers. Was very funny and I did LOL..LOL

I do believe you got it. Great exercise, well performed and I admire you patience in taking on this task.

It's always good to see artists improving their discipline, often by returning to basics.

I did Dennis thank you. Not a patch on your beautiful apple though Carole. Louise, the only time I can stay still for this long is when I'm asleep! Love the sultana story...lol...perhaps that's it, I was concentrating on it so hard I fell asleep! Thank you Alan...you can remember 'that' far back.....you told me a while a go that it's the basics that matter and you're right...again! lol Many thanks Ruthy, Ellen, Pete...Pete why don't you have a go with your pencils and do a blend of red/green/yellow etc then add water. Might have a go myself. Thank you very much David, Margaret, Andre and Linda for your feedback...it's charcoal again next week.

hi this is good I think you did a brilliant drawing xx

Yes you got it Fiona, nicely formed. With pips an all.

Oh you did get it well and truly Fiona. A lovely back to basics .

"Very basic and simple stuff' it may be Fiona, but the skill required to do this appears to be regarded as irrelevant by too many 'artists' today. Excellent work!

Thank you very much Paula, John, Sylvia, Russell for your encouraging comments!

That's a great pencil excercise Fiona, I bet your tutor was pleased with it.

Thanks Val, he seemed to be...I am definitely pleased with it, I think it's the longest time I've ever spent on anything!

Thanks Gudrun! X

Can't believe I had the patience to complete this thus far, I can't usually stand in one place for the time it took me to get this far, never mind concentrate for this long on the same subject. It could take much more shading yet but will leave it as it is. The exercise was to form the shape of the apple without drawing it, using shading only to define the apple and it's surroundings just by tones and no lines. Very basic and simple stuff I know but I really enjoyed doing it and I feel as though 'I got it'.
