Great study Fiona and a quite beautiful arrangements

I agree it works very well !

Good study and such light does make a painting more interesting. You were right to exclude the bright light. Carry on experimenting.

Total agreement with all the above, very brave too.

you are making good progress with your oils Fiona, look forward to seeing more!

Crikey, Fiona, you're coming on in leaps and bounds! I bet you were pleased with this. The colours are so harmonious, the arrangement of the objects is so much better - in fact, the shapes, and negative shapes, could without too much change, lead to an abstract. Great work!

Yeh...Good result Fiona! I like the long shadows, especially the shadow shape under the fruit bowl next to the round apple (?) shadow. Almost abstract in feel. Lovely warm rich colour and good shine on the large vase as well. I'm also looking forward to seeing the next one now!

I can tell that you were more at ease with this still life Fiona! Lovely soft light bathes this scene beautifully. I agree with Louise that this is quite abstract work which makes it even more interesting.Lovely work and it reminds me of a Klimt painting in style with a huge squeeze of Fiona added. I mean that as a great big compliment :)

I'm so pleased and relieved that you like it, I was a bit worried that I was feeling a little too smug about it...only because I was pleased with the result, compared to the other two posted. I enjoyed the whole process of this one. Marjorie, I'm glad you're keeping an eye on me, I'm counting on you to keep me right!Lol. Many thanks for your continued support! X

Great subject very well observed.

This works really well Fiona and I do like those long shadows, you are obviously enjoying your 'oils' journey!

Many thanks Sylvia and Christine, your comments are very much appreciated.

It's a gorgeous piece, Fiona, rich, sumptuous and very well composed. The use of the shadows with the objects to create the integrated overall shapes in the painting works beautifully.

Thank you very much Seok, this is all very new to me and so your encouragement and advice is always welcome.

This was painted in artificial light, as the weather was so dull and the light coming in through the windows was almost non-existent. Rather than struggle to define light and shadows from the natural light I chose this grouping which was bathed in total lamplight (which was above the subject height) and cast the most gorgeous long rich reflections across the table top. I don't know whether it was a wise choice or not, but I decided not to include the lamp and strong light from the lamp in the painting, and concentrated on the reflections themselves. What do you think? Old Holland oils; U. marine, Persian red, Cerulean, Indian yellow, L. yellow, Perm. rose and Tit. white. On canvas board 24"x16".
