Fiona, I love this; in particular you've done a lovely sky. I've been away from the site for ages and didn't know Alan has done an article, that's great news. Hopefully I'll be able to find a copy - which month is it in?

Lovely, great trees Fiona.

A great result Fiona, I can see Alan's influence here, I'm sure he will approve. I might have to break my new year resolution, not to buy any more art mags, to see the article!

So simple and never as simple as it looks - the mark of a really good watercolour

Or should I have said mixed media piece?

Beautifully painted piece, Fiona. Great trees! I also like the way that you have used the sky colours, quite naturally, in the little distant mountain and in the road. This technique ties the whole picture together. Super stuff!

Lovely well painted work Fiona! great balance of soft colours and loose painterly style.

I love the birch trees. I am also impressed with the sky. Beautiful palette. I remember when I tried a sky .... There's another challenge!

Wow Fiona -you've certainly produced a lovely painting here -an almost glowing lightness to it. As a matter of interest do you scan or photograph your paintings.

Caroline, thank you. The sky is just about as Alan did in the demo, my mountain went a bit out of shape, I think. The article is in February's issue, or if you go to the HOME page of this site it's listed under 'latest features' as a video.

Thank you Carole, Stephen (for Alan's video of the demo see my above reply to Caroline) thank you Michael much appreciated.

Thank you very much Lionel, always value your opinion......are you going to have a bash at this one?

Thank you Mark, Gudrun ( that's two challenges Lol) and Carol for your feedback. Carol, it depends on the size, I've sent you a seperate email to explain. Thanks again all.

WOW this is great. Can't fault anything. I didn't even know these videos were there! I've never watched a painting demo, but having had a look at Alan's I think that yours is even better, (sorry Alan) especially the trees and I like the more muted colors, the clouds are perfect. I see that you can add your own videos, so hopefully we will be seeing a Fiona Phipps demonstration one day.

another wonderful achievement

Beautiful work Fiona, love it.

Me do a painting demo? You must be joking, all I would demonstrate is bad practice and bad habits.Lol. Not to mention bad language! But thank you Kevin, that's a lovely thing to say! To be fair to Alan's demo's, he is against the clock, I have the luxury of time, so I can do lots of tweaking. Alan can only achieve so much detail in the time allowed for the video.

Pat, Glennis....thank you both very much.

Fiona , as always a beautiful piece of work, you have really nailed your style, its sharp yet holds that loosness that we love. Im delighted to see that you have put brushes to paper again.

Hayley, as always.....you are too kind but thank you very much. Speaking of putting brush to paper, I haven't seen anything from yourself lately. Are you struggling for inspiration or time?

This is so lovely Fiona, I love the warmth in it. No offence to Alan but when you can paint like you do there is no need to follow demos, they are for people like me who can't do watercolour landscapes:)

You can do watercolour landscapes Val, I've seen them. I do enjoy following Alan's successes in his painting, I think he's marvelous. It's only fitting we have a go when he's so encouraging and generous with his experience. I pick up lots of tips too. Thanks Val, much appreciated.

Hi Fiona. I have posted the following on my Cottage effort: "Fiona and Louise. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to comment on this pathetic little painting. Louise, your advice is much appreciated and I intend to attempt to apply it this afternoon. Depending on how I get on, I may re-post it. In any event, I will soon remove this one from the site". Repeated here in case you do not return and see it my watercolour posting.

Really lovely pen and wash - nice gentle colours. I can see that you have taken what Alan had to offer in the way of advice with both hands and run with it. Great results.

Love the colours in this painting, looks so peaceful.

Thank you Michael.

A pen & wash of Alan Owen's demo in the Leisure Painter mag this month. Really enjoyed doing it! Alan's simplified instructions and clear demonstration of the application of washes made it a pleasure to follow. Thank you Alan, I hope there will be many more opportunities to repeat the experience.
