Calmer Water

Comments

Well, I think this is lovely, but then you know I like minimal ....

Very different Fiona,I think the red sail on the boat is a great idea ,it leads the eye into the distance.

Very interesting shapes and textures Fiona. Makes a good and intriguing painting which I like very much.

This is excellent Fiona , look like the eye of the storm sailed out into calm water and hope that the storm dies down. Between A cold front and a warm front even, sorry I ramble .

This is a lovely painting Fiona, my imagination is floating along clattershaw,

Very effective, that red sail makes it.

This looks great Fiona, it makes me think if Japanese art, must be the space and the muted colours. You have made good use of that paper and as the others have said the red sail sets it all off beautifully.

Lovely fiona 😍 very effective

I like the effect achieved, I thought it was a watercolour at first glance. Lovely Fiona.

Super use of turpsy oils, I really like it

Tha boat is a master stroke, love how you've got a granulation feel, its almost like watercolour.

Very interesting technique, like it!

I like this very much. Fairly abstract in the trees, with a touch of realism in the boat and the river. A painting of contrasts that works really well.

Immediately says Chines gorge (to me at least), but it's not just the scene but the style too. A success.

Thought at first this was watercolour, Fiona. Like the colours and mix of abstract and realism - the red boat, though, really makes it!

Lovely thought and painting. The boat is a great addition as a counter point to the loose turps trees.

Your little red sailed boat just makes the painting. Best wishes to you too Fiona for a better year.

Thank you everyone for your interest in this one, I wasn’t very sure about posting it to be honest….just feeling the water 😂 on whether some more experimenting in this kind of application is worth pursuing. Really appreciate your input.

It’s beautiful, Fiona. Let’s hope you’re right, with calmer times to come.

Thanks Ellen, very kind of you to say so.

How effective is this? Less is more - brilliant Fiona

Love the washes in this Fiona, beautifully painted

A lovely Watercolour effect Fiona.

I love this technique. The way you have manipulated the canvas to ensure the paint moves where you wish to create your design is inspirational. The boats add a further dimension. Super!

Before I read your description Fiona I thought this was watercolour. It is certainly very effective and as others have said the red sails really make it. I look forward to more of the same technique.

Russell, David, Jennifer, Spencer, Carol…..so glad you like it! Thanks very much indeed for your positive response. I might just have another go!

Lovely effects, well balanced and good decision to add the red boat : )

Looks great- the washes give it so much atmosphere

Thank you ladies, glad you like it. X

Thank you very much Aisling.

16”x12” oil on canvas paper. I started this about a month ago, just playing with very turpsy oil washes really. Before I added the boat today, I wasn’t sure how to take it forward but thinking of the rough times of the last couple of years behind us, I’m hoping it will be calmer waters for us all.
