I've found that in Art nothing is ever as easy as it looks! I can't see the appeal of Lowry either, but if your sister is pleased with it and I'm sure many other people would be too, who are we to quibble? At least this fun and it made be smile, nice work!

I also find it difficult copying the style of others - and especially children. Next time I hear the comment: 'a child could do better than that' I think I'll scream. As for this I think it really is at the top of the pile as far as copies go and something you should be proud of.

Being a Lancashire girl I feel I should admire Lowry's northern factories and his match stick men and this is as good as any of his I've seen. Lucky sister :)

I love it too Fiona and would love to have on my wall!

I'm hoping that my sister won't be repeating her request this Christmas, for a look-a-like Lowry. She may be very disappointed! Thank you all for your comments.

Being Lancashire born and bred I have a soft spot for Lowry and I love this!

I love this, Fiona! Not your usual style, but it's great fun and has a life all of its own!

Your matchstick men have had a good meal Fiona, more to eat than Mr Lowry's men :0)) Good painting.

I'm not a great Lowry fan either, but you did a good job Fiona. Maybe you should STICK at it!

Hi Christine, thanks very much but I'm sorry, he's not my favourite artist. Many thanks Seok, Carole much appreciated. No chance Frank, I found this one hard enough to do, Lowry is becoming a STICKING point in the family. Thanks all.

You've had a great go at this one, Fiona, and I can well believe that it wasn't easy at all. It definitely has that authentic Lowry look, so you you certainly achieved your goal. I really like it so I am with your sister on that one.

Right up my street Fiona! I just love Lowryesque (hope that's a word!) paintings. Keep them coming :)

Like it or not, it is a very effective tribute, and clever in your composition.

Thank you Thea. When my sister asked if I could do her a Lowry type picture, I thought ugh, then thought, it won't take me long it looks easy......HA!! It nearly had me pulling my hair out. Only just managed to get it done in time to get it in the for the post for Christmas. Never again.

Sarah, Gudrun thank you very much. There won 't be any more Sarah!

Hi Fiona. Like certain others on this site, I cannot stand Lowry and how he achieved the popularity that he has will remain for me a mystery. Having said that, your painting is an excellent "Lowry" in it's own right! I write, though, to thank you for your recent message. I really do enjoy receiving these unexpected messages! They are indeed most encouraging. I tried to make a start last week but, having got brushes, water, paints and a "practice" support ready, I then discovered to my alarm that I did not know how to start and put everything away again! Since then, I took out a canvas board (for a "proper" painting) and found it much better. I have made a start at copying one of Allen's watercolours - but in acrylics. It will be completed over this weekend; that's how slow I am, but complete it I will. Now it's your turn..........PLEASE!

Thanks, Fiona, for your last message. I'm really pleased that you have broken your deadlock and I am looking forward to seeing it here at PoL. I'm watching!!

I think you painted it very good. Lowry never painted shadows or horses he would get children to draw hores for him. To copy lowrys work is quite tedious, I know how difficult it is, I painted 5 as a commision, drove me crazy, so I can understand. Never the less you did excellent!

Thank you Peter, Lowry's work isn't that simple to replicate is it. Not easy at all!

Not my usual subject or style but my sister is mad on Lowry, so I painted this last Christmas for her. She loves it, I can't stand it! Apologies also for the quality of the photo. Interestingly, I found it a very difficult style to copy, you would think that the lack of perspective and stick people would be easy......not so. Taken from three seperate paintngs of the great man. Thanks for looking.
